This depends on the age of the boat. Insurance carriers will require a survey on any performance boat that is more than 10 years old. These surveys can generally be accepted if they are out of water, and have been completed within the last 2 years.
At least 2 years of prior ownership of a vessel of similar length and speed. It is ok to have small jumps in size/speed as a way to build your experience, but no more than 10′ at a time. So if you have previously owned a 29′ performance boat, your new boat should be no more than 39′.

Yes. Every insurance company is different in terms of what type of boats they will cover. For example, some companies will say your performance boat can be no more than 2 engines, no more than 700hp per engine, and cannot have a supercharger installed. This doesn’t mean you are uninsurable, it just means you will not qualify for that particular company. We represent multiple boat insurance companies for this exact reason.
